Joining a quiz? Here’s how to play

In a dim bar, the venue’s big screen asks “The Eiffel Tower grows taller in the summer.” beside a photograph of the tower, and a team’s phone shows the same question with True and False.
  • 1laptop

connected to the pub’s TV runs the whole night.

  • 1phone

per team. Scan the code and play, nothing to download.

  • 0answer sheets

Most answers arrive marked, and the scores add themselves.

  • 6minigames

between rounds, then a podium to finish.

One night, four steps

From the first slide you write to the results waiting when the last team goes home.

1 · Write and brand

Your pub’s name on every slide

Picture rounds, music rounds, buzzers and drawing, in fifteen kinds of question. Add your logo and colours once and every slide wears them. Write on your laptop with Qwizworks Studio or in any web browser.

Qwizworks Studio writing The Red Lion Quiz: its slides down the side, and the welcome slide open with the pub’s crest, The Red Lion Quiz and Every Thursday in its red and gold.

2 · Run the big screen

Plug in a laptop, and that’s the setup

Connect your laptop to the pub’s TV and the quiz runs from there. Teams connect over the pub’s Wi-Fi, so if the broadband drops mid-round, the quiz carries on. Move it on with a click or a presentation clicker.

The pub’s TV asking “What is the longest river in the United Kingdom?” with Thames, Severn, Trent and Tay and 18 seconds left, run from Qwizworks Studio on the laptop beside it, where 6 of 8 teams are in.

3 · Play on the phones

Every team plays on its own phone

Teams join the pub’s Wi-Fi, scan the code on the screen and they’re in. Nothing to download, no sign-up: a team just picks its name. One phone per team is all it takes.

A team’s phone asking which river flows through the middle of Cardiff, with its four answers Taff, Severn, Usk and Wye, over two friends answering on a phone at a pub table.

4 · The results

See who won, and how

The final scores, every team’s answers and drawings, and a replay of the whole night, kept in your account. Handy for settling an argument at the bar.

A night’s report: the final standings, The Quizzly Bears first on 48 points, Agatha Quiztie second on 45 and Les Quizerables third on 41, beside the Bears’ drawn koala.

Made for the room you run

The same night, whether it is one pub on a Tuesday or forty venues on a Friday.

  • Two friends at a pub table lean in over one phone beside a pint, talking the answer through.

    Pub quizmasters

Your weekly quiz on the pub’s TV, your pub’s name on every slide, and no answer sheets to mark.

  • Two hosts at a lectern check the laptop, one holding the microphone, a big screen lit behind them.

    Quiz companies

Write each week’s quiz once. Every quizmaster runs it at their venue, in your brand, and every venue’s results come back to you.

  • Guests at round tables in a function room turn to the big screen and clap, the host at the front with the microphone.

    Function rooms

A party, a fundraiser or a work do, with the client’s logo on every slide and every table playing from its seats.

  • A player at home with a laptop on his knees waves to two friends on a video call.

    Online

Teams play from home with a short code, and every question shows on their phones. Run it from your web browser, with nothing to install.

Games between rounds, then a podium to finish

Countdown beeps, reveal stings and a podium with confetti. The room gets a TV quiz show; you just press next.

Team selfies on the big screen, a jingle each team can choose, and a result card every team can share.

  • Tap frenzy tap fastest to win the race
  • Tug of war two sides tap to pull the rope
  • Prize wheel you fill the wheel, a team spins for points or a prize
  • Time trial count the seconds in your head and stop closest
  • Duel two teams, the fastest tap wins
  • Bingo music, picture or number bingo, on phones and printed cards
Two phones: a tug of war mid-pull for the Blues, the rope drawn their way, and the podium placing The Quizzly Bears first of 8 teams on 48 points, with buttons to cheer Agatha Quiztie in second and Les Quizerables in third.
